PHILADELPHIA – Michael A. Brown, president & CEO of Environmental Construction Services, Inc. (ECSI) of Philadelphia, founded the company in 2010 with a $10,000 investment and two employees. The firm has grown to more than $4 million and 30 employees, including subsidiary Element Mechanical, in three years with help from SBA and its resource partners as well as the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.  Read more

Self-made minority contractor brings jobs and hope to lower Northeast

MICHAEL A. BROWN, who pulled himself up by his bootstraps to become founder/president of Environmental Construction Services in the Far Northeast, said yesterday that he is moving his company to Oxford Circle to make it a job-providing “pillar of the community.”

Brown said that in 2010 when he founded the company – which retrofits businesses to reduce their energy costs – people told him he couldn’t find skilled employees in Philadelphia.  Read more

Trailblazer for minority mechanical contractors

MICHAEL A. BROWN, 38, of Blackwood, Camden County, is the founder and president of Environmental Construction Services, an HVAC company in Somerton that does energy-retrofit projects. Brown was one of 23 small-business owners who recently completed the Goldman Sachs “10,000 Small Businesses” training program at Community College of Philadelphia. Right now, he’s with Mayor Nutter and other business leaders on a trade mission to London and Tel Aviv.  Read more
